Bette Davis Eyes 2.0

Okay, so I'm going to try this again and hopefully not delete it. Sheesh. Oh and just so you know, I'm writing this while watching A Charlie Brown Valentine, so if I start rambling off track... that is why. I'm 24 years old and I still love Peanuts, it is just so cute! It is also quite witty. I don't think I fully understood any of that when I was younger. Anyway it's a throwback that makes me feel young at heart! LOVE IT! Back to mascara... I'm not trying to be shallow and girl-talk about make up tips, but I can't help it that I just happen to be an expert at mascara! I'm sorry that everyone is so jealous of me, but I can't help it that I'm popular. AND SCENE. Bette Davis is probably the most iconic eyelash batter... ever. She, like myself, has a song about them... mine is about breakfast, which happens to be my favorite meal of the day... hmmm, irony? and Bette Davis? her eyes... You HAVE to have fabulous eyes to have a song about them. I suppose I could count Brown Eyed Girl??? Well guess what...
SHE WAS A FAKE. Yep folks, it's true...Bette Davis wore fake lashes... She said herself, "When I die, they'll probably auction off my fake eyelashes." So there you have it... Don't go getting upset because I am here to offer my suggestions so you can avoid the sticky glue and plastic mess stuck to your eyelids. Yeppers, I'm back to share my opinion on the best mascaras. In an earlier post I mentioned my credibility, but incase you missed it here it is again. I'm not a "make up" girl. I am a true mascara and lip balm girl! I am Asian and have very little eyelashes to work with so mascara is an investment to me, and I have been up and down every makeup aisle searching for the perfect mascara... so here we go.

GET READY TO BAT YOUR LASHES....
Okay, here you are looking at the MAC Fibre Rich Lash mascara. This is the first "designer" mascara I ever purchased and at a price of $13 it's not a bad buy. I LOVED this mascara. At first it was super goopy but after a few uses it tightened up. It made my lashes thick, black and a little shiny. It didn't really add length, but it definitely thickened them up! The wand is also super cool! It doesn't have bristles but the little fibers that coat your lashes. NEATO!
Now, this mascara I used for a really long time. It is FABULOUS! It is about $24 and is worth it in my book. Don't forget that I'm not spending money on other useless makeup! Diorshow will thicken and lengthen your lashes and even curl them a teeny bit when they dry. What else could you want in a mascara?!?!? I like to curl my lashes after the mascara and after this dried I could do it, but with the MAC it was too soft and I couldn't do that so yeah. The Diorshow wand is nice and long and the brush is super thick and big! This is great for the front middle lashes, but sucky for the tiny lashes in the corners so keep the Q-tips handy!
Diorshow came out with BLACKOUT so DUH I had to get it! OH MAN, this was even better! It is also $24 and will totally change your mind about what a mascara can make you feel. This made my lashes super black, super thick, and long. I felt totally sexy in this mascara (really!) and I definitely felt like I didn't have to put on any other make up! This was a sort of mix between the original Diorshow and the MAC because it was a little shiny, (which I like.) The wand and brush are the same so kepp those Q-tips on the counter! Diorshow has come out with a few others like ICONIC but I haven't tried them.
Yves Saint Laurent came out with Volume Effet Faux Cils and as soon as I saw they gold tube, I was instantly drawn to it! And let me tell you, holding this beautiful golden tube of make up in your hand gives you a royal feeling and on top of that it gives you royal lashes. Though this will set you back $30, don't you want to feel beautiful and special when putting on makeup? Who doesn't? This was like fake lashes in a tube. It made them long, long lasting, and gave a little curl. Something about the formula was genius. The brush was also a good size. However, I found out that YSL tested on animals and I had to immediately throw it away. SHAME ON YOU YSL!
So I headed to Sephora for the next big thing and $19.50 later I came back with this...
Now Too Faced Lash Injection was the epitome of technology in make up at the time. It was one of the first "tube" mascaras on the market. Lash Injection forms little tiny tubes around your lashes that curl, fatten and lengthen. I WAS IN LOVE! It gives the look of extensions in a TUBE... get it? HAH! Anyway I was absolutely AMAZED at how these made my short little non existent lashes come to life as they never have before! FABULOUS!
Don't be frightened by this little beauty, because that little spiky ball thingy on the Givenchy Phenomen'Eyes is FABULOUS. This $30 wonder starting peeking out in magazines and ads and soon it was THE mascara to have. So what did I do? I GOT IT. Let me tell you something... this little contraption is AMAZING. It really gets all the lashes and really gets all the lashes, even all the teeny microscopic ones, and it truly opens your eyes. You haven't really "opened" your eyes until you have coated every lash with this baby. However the formula is TERRIBLE. The mascara goes on, opens your eyes, then an hour later it has smeared and gotten all under your eyes and it looks like you've been punched in the face. NOT COOL. So I threw the tube away and kept the wand for use with other mascaras. If they could just sell the wand then that would be perfect. I did just see a commercial for a L'oreal mascara with a little spiky ball thingy... I'll have to try that.
So I got real... real poor and had to truck it 7 miles, through the snow, uphill to WalMart to shop for mascara. Not a big deal, I did it in high school and I survived that, right? Well, barely... but I don't think my eyelashes had anything to do with that. So I'm automatically drawn to this fat orange tube and spiky brush, and let me say my instincts were RIGHT. This mascara for $8 is AWESOME! It fattened up my lashes like cake does to my butt, only I didn't have to exercise after! This took my little lashes to a whole new level! They were so thick and the formula was pretty good too! Not the best lengthening mascara but if you are looking for a daily rever-upper then this is it! Sometimes you can find it when it is buy one get one...JACKPOT! It also comes in waterproof which is great to just throw on before the beach or lake. Totally recommended.
So I'm still poor and I really loved the "tube" technology so when L'oreal came out with their Double Extend Beauty Tubes I was excited. Okay, so I might get a little emotional talking about this wonder. L'oreal has really done it! For about 10 smackers you can have the most AMAZING lashes it ain't even funny!! Though the 2 steps can be a little annoying, the formula lying within the tube is nothing but miraculous. You think I'm exaggerating... but I'M NOT! These really are lash extensions in a tube, it's insane! Most mascaras advertise that they make your lashes APPEAR longer... well this actually MAKES them LONGER!!! They are so long that after I give them a little curl, I can feel them on my brow... it's crazy! What else is good about the formula?? WELL it doesn't rub off or flake and somehow when I cry it doesn't come off but if I wash my face with water- not harsh soaps or make up remover- but just water, they slide right off! Creeps you out at first, but you get used to it! How does it know to not come off when I cry but come off when I wash my face? It just KNOWS! The brushes are also good too, they aren't too big or too small. PERFECTION is this mascara. There is nothing I could ask for to make this any better. Who would have ever thought that I would LOVE a mascara from WalMart over everything else... I sure didn't at first, but now I'm a changed woman!
SO GET THOSE LASHES READY...
BUT DON'T GET CRAZY!!!
START BATTING THOSE EYELASHES AND WINKING AWAY!!!
YOU BETCHA!!!

Hope you enjoyed the new and improved version of this post! Look out for MASCARA 3.0 next! HAH!

  1. Hey Tiffany... my name is Megan. I found your blog through Rachels. It is nothing short of absolutely fabulous, btw. I am soooo super happy that you wrote this mascara post. I have about fifteen hundred tubes of mascara... none of which I feel get the job done. SO thanks to you, I will go out tonight and purchase the Loreal double extend... is that what your final suggestion was? How does it work on the lower lashes? Thats my problem area.Have you seen the Brooke Shields commercials for Latisse? Longer, fuller, and darker lashes sound right up my alley. I want to try it, but I am not so sure about brown iris pigmintation. Sounds weird.

  2. HEY MEGAN! I'm so glad you are enjoying my blog and my mascara post! The Loreal Double extend is totally what I recommend! It does add great length and volume to the bottom lashes as well as the top! Latisse? yeah I've heard of it, but it scares me a little too. Loreal just came out with a Lash Boosting mascara and serum combo for lashes! I haven't tried it but I know someone who has and she said it works, and it's only about $25. So maybe you could give that a shot! In the mean time, Loreal Double Extend Beauty Tubes is the WAY to go!!! Good Luck!
