I NEED A JOB DOT COM

HAPPY WEDNESDAY! My day today was a fairly busy one. Let me tell you about it...
...there was a beautiful, young lady named Tiffany. She was totally fabulous and lived a fabulous life. One day Tiffany and her true love Chad jumped ship and relocated to Austin, Texas. She had high hopes for the job market in Austin, but soon figured out that the job market was an evil land and didn't have an instant opportunity for her like she expected. Tiffany felt sad and depressed and didn't know what to do. She had all these skills and ideas and they were all just melting away. So, one day she met a girl named Sarah Fulton. Miss Sarah was a princess from Dallas and was sent to help Tiffany on her adventure in Austin land. Sarah introduced her to the fabulous organization of Women in Communications. Austin fortunately had a professional chapter and it happened to be the largest in the land (like the whole nation!) Tiffany decided that this was the perfect creative outlet and the perfect way to meet people. She joined and signed on the Get Smart 2010 conference committee and loved every second of it.
Not only did she learn a lot, she made some lifelong friends as well...
Okay, so, back to reality. Every month AWC puts on a monthly luncheon with a different topic. I've been to 2 and they were SO great. I learn so much AND get a yummy lunch... JACKPOT! So today our luncheon was all about Linked In and social networking! HEY TO ALL THE FAB LADIES I MET!!!
This was perfect because I have a Linked In account but I'm pretty sure I'm not using it to my full advantage. Kim Hollenshead was the speaker and she is FABULOUS! She knows like everything there is to know about this particular social network. She said that she knows people who have gotten jobs from Linked In so after hearing that...I'm ALL IN! I'm currently working on making more connections, joining more groups, and getting more recommendations. So be on the look out for that! A funny thing... At the luncheons, we have name tags, and our name tags have our name and occupation on them. Since I don't have an occupation, I just put "I NEED A JOB.COM" I laugh because people thought that I had started up some sort of website...well NO, but I do have this blog, so I'm going to use this to my advantage... The next paragraph is going to be my I NEED A JOB.COM...
So yeah, I NEED A JOB. I graduated from Auburn University with a degree in English and Communications. I have been working since I was 16, and this is the longest I have be unemployed since. I like to consider myself the ultimate "GO-TO" girl. If you GO TO me, then I will get the job done, done right, and done on time. While pursuing my degree, I participated in numerous English and Communication courses that I believe have allowed to me to learn and utilize the English language properly in a professional and everyday setting. While attending Auburn I also had jobs and involvement that allowed me increase my interaction with people and improve on my customer service and teamwork. Including a job where I was involved in event planning, setup and breakdown and overall follow through, as well as sorority involvement where I worked with marketing, PR, and overall organization during our recruitment and annual philanthropy project. My experiences at my previous jobs have been tremendous; however, it is time to move onto a new chapter in my life. Therefore, I am seeking career opportunities in my new home Austin, Texas. I believe I have a lot of practical experience, knowledge, and skills to offer. I am smart, mature and have a very positive attitude. I am also organized, detail oriented as well as punctual. My communication skills are excellent. Being a new graduate I can take what I have learned and apply it to the clean slate. I believe that I can meet as well as exceed all expectations. I am a fast learner, energetic, creative, and work extremely well with numbers, computers, telephones and people. I am also flexible and have a lot of customer service experience, and I just happen to love it! So if anyone out there knows of anything that would fit like a glove, or even a tarp then PLEASE let me know! Thanks!
So, I have been interviewing left and right, but nothing seems to be "the job" for me... mostly because I'm not getting hired... WELL, I had a follow up interview @ Hudson on 5th today for an Event Planning position.
The position entails bringing people in during the "Happy Hour" hours. This is TOTALLY PERFECT for me. I'm a great social networker and I have been meeting people like crazy, (LOVE IT) and I really believe that I can generate new business for this place.
Possibly a new location for April's TWEET UP?!? Ahh, thoughts... SO, I think the interview went well and they said the decision should be made soon... SO CROSS YOUR FINGERS!
So, I'm getting ready to make the tuna steaks I mentioned in an earlier post... I found a fairly simple recipe. If anyone is interested here it is:
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 Cup Black Sesame Seeds
  • 1/4 Cup White Sesame Seeds
  • 1 Tablespoon of Sesame Oil
  • 2 - 6 ounce Ahi (Also known as Yellow Fin) Tuna Steaks
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
  • Marinade / Dipping Sauce
  • 1/ 2 Cup of Low Sodium Soy Sauce (Who needs the extra sodium, right?)
  • 1 Lime (Juice and Zest - If you want more lime flavor, add another)
  • 1- 2 Cloves of Garlic Minced
  • 2 Tablespoons of Honey
  • 1 Tablespoon of Sesame Oil
  • 2 Tablespoons of Freshly Chopped Cilantro Leaves
Directions
  1. Prepare the marinade. Add all marinade ingredients to a small bowl and mix well. Reserve half of this marinade in a separate container to use as a dipping sauce.
  2. Get a glass baking dish or other non-reactive container to marinade the tuna in. You want the tuna steaks to fit snuggly in the dish so that they are surrounded nicely with the marinade. Pour the marinade into the dish and put the tuna steaks in and kind of swirl the marinade around so that you coat the fish well. Cover with some plastic wrap and refrigerate. Another option is to pour the marinade in a large zip lock bag, add the tuna, and then squeeze out the air. Marinade for 30 minutes to an hour, turning the tuna about half way through.
  3. Remove tuna from fridge and let stand at room temperature for about 20 minutes or so.
  4. Remove tuna from marinade, shaking off any excess marinade and dry on paper towels.
  5. Heat a saute pan over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. The oil should be hot but not smoking.
  6. While the pan is heating, arrange your sesame seeds on a flat dish. Roll the tuna around in the seeds pressing down as you roll ensuring the seeds are packed into the tuna nicely.
  7. Add the tuna to the hot saute pan and shake it a bit to make sure the tuna does not stick. Sear for 30 to 40 seconds on both sides.
  8. Remove and serve with the reserved dipping sauce.

I'll let you know how it turns out! I'm going to make some brown fried rice too.. YUM! I just love to cook! I'm off! Have a FABULOUS night!

  1. First, you DESERVE that job. You're great. And with your networking skills, you'd be the perfect match.

Second, thank you for the recipe. I'm going to try it. And I'll call you when I do.

Third, glad you learned about LinkedIn. I started getting into that right before I graduated and it was really helpful. Diego has had a lot of calls from recruiters from his LinkedIn presence.
